Thus, many pastors, youth leaders, and anyone else who has ever had to give any presentation was ultimately introduced to PowerPoint as ‘THE’ presentation tool. New technology being introduced is a way of life for us.įor the majority of people who are outside of that small generational window, however, technology has either been a part of life from the beginning OR technology is something fearful and avoided as often as possible. But, we also remember the days prior to all of that. We were the generation that figured out what email really was, how instant messaging could connect us, and many other things that our parents would never have dreamed of. We were the first generation of kids to have a computer in the home.

For people like myself, who grew up between Generation Y and Millennials, we were exposed to both an analog and digital world. Although primarily designed for business meetings and conference rooms, over the years it has found acceptance in many churches for one main reason: It’s what everyone started on. PowerPoint is a very good general-purpose presentation tool that has been developed by the proverbial ‘800-pound gorilla’ -Microsoft. There is one, however, that isn’t even designed for the church, yet is still the most widely used presentation software in worship services: PowerPoint. Others are very complex and can offer a lot of customization-at the expense of usability. Some are very simple and can do a few things well. However, not all church presentation software is the same. Whether it’s moving from hymnals to placing song lyrics on a screen, or from telling a story that kicks off the message to showing a film clip instead, churches all over the world are introducing modern media into their presentations. Whether you’ve been using overhead projectors with transparencies or you’ve invested in the latest video wall or curved screen, the premise is still the same- enhance your worship service and message with visual tools. Church presentations haven’t changed much over the years. In a number of countries, SCREAM has been linked to or incorporated into national curricula, often with the active involvement of teachers’ trade unions and public education authorities.I get it. The modules are generic and can be adapted to any geographical or cultural context and to any formal or non-formal setting. The SCREAM modules are flexible “building blocks.” Activities can be adapted according to the time and resources available and may be part of a year-long education programme or one-off workshops. Through the arts, young people are empowered to convey their message to the wider community.

The methodology is based on the arts - drama, creative writing, music and the visual arts – and on the media. Three special modules on critical areas have been developed: SCREAM: A special module on HIV, AIDS and child labour SCREAM: A special module on child labour and armed conflict and SCREAM: A special module on child labour in agriculture. SCREAM is delivered by educators using an education pack, consisting of 14 modules. Ultimately, SCREAM seeks to change social attitudes to promote a culture of respect for children’s rights and to strengthen the worldwide movement against child labour. The SCREAM programme aims to promote awareness among young people about children’s rights, with a focus on child labour, so that they in turn can speak out and mobilise their communities to act. Young people are a driving force for change.
